Contrary to many beliefs, Samhain is an ancient Celtic holiday meant to celebrate the ending of summer and the earth changing/dying, harvesting time, and honoring all of our loved ones who have passed away. Curiously enough, during Samhain the veil between our own reality and the spirit realm is thin making this a perfect time for connecting with our loved ones and ancestors who have past over.
Around the eight century or so, the Catholics voted to reserve November 1st as a day for honoring the mass of All Saint's who did not already have a day of their own. This mass was named "Allhallowmas", which means the mass of all those who are hallowed. The night before "Allhallowmas," October 31st, naturally became known as "All Hallows Eve' which eventually became what we know today as "Halloween."
As this is a time for celebrating what is dead and/or ready to be harvest, it is also a precise time for focusing on areas of our lives that are no longer alive and/or reaping the rewards of what we have been working so hard for all year long. Ask yourself, "What is dead and/or dying in my life at this moment?" "What can I harvest at this time?" "Is there something in my life that I can let go of to allow new blessings to come in?" "Is it time for me to reap the rewards of what I have been working so hard towards?" These are just a few examples of questions that could be helpful for sparking positive changes in your life.
Whether you are celebrating Halloween or Samhain, I wish for you an enchanted time of rewarding harvest.
Blessings,
